ABOUT THE ARTIST

Baul Louie was born in Lung-On, a small rural village in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong. He first started painting when he was 10 years old, and honed his art by studying with some of the greatest masters of traditional Chinese watercolor painting.

Louie continued painting and exhibiting in galleries after he immigrated to New York City, then Hawaii in the 1960s. His paintings have been exhibited worldwide--in New York, Honolulu, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Switzerland, and Germany.

Louie eventually applied his talent to creating wearable art and became a pioneer in hand painting T-shirts. One of his butterfly designs won first place in the National Great American T-shirt Competition.  Louie has been a featured artist at national Hawaii-based retail chain Crazy Shirts since 1976, and currently resides with his family in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Baul Louie Designs is a division of Unique and Personal Fashions, Inc., a Honolulu-based family-owned apparel design, wholesale supply, and manufacturing company.
